WILLIAM J. KING

William J. "Bill" King, 86, of La Crosse, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse. He was born July 4, 1924, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Marshall and Thelma (Dickson) King.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division.
On June 22, 1946, he married Lorraine Bauer in Chicago, Ill., and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this month.
Bill was employed by Dominicks Grocery Store as a dairy and frozen food buyer. He was a hard-working, freedom-fighting hero who always did his best.
A wonderful father this man was, as well as a true American whose philosophy of life will influence and entertain us for years to come. He had more mettle than most people we’ve ever met, and always stuck to the principles he believed in. His impression on our world is enduring, and we are better for it. Dad, job well-done. Thank you!  Above all, he was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; three sons, Michael of Eagle River, Alaska, Robert (Linda) of Duluth, Minn., and Daniel (Sally) of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Ryan, Katherine, Maria, Kristen, and Brandon; his sister, Louise Hightower of Pineville, Ky.; his brother-in-law, Robert (Marjorie) Bauer of St. Charles, Ill.; a special niece, Brenda Hightower of Pineville, Ky; many other nieces and nephews; and his pal, "Missy", who was always by his side while he was sick. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John "Jack" King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 10, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. Father Douglas Robertson will officiate. A private entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum at Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Clare Health Mission, Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, or Mayo Clinic Health System - Franciscan Healthcare Foundation. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you along with their love and appreciation to the staff at Hillview Health Care Center for the compassionate care given to Bill.
