ARTHUR W. KIRK, 80, Melbourne Beach, died Monday. Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home, Melbourne.

(The Orlando Sentinel, Orlando, FL, 17 Dec 2003, Page B6 - courtesy of Tedd Cocker)

On 11 April 1940, Arthur enlisted in the National Guard for 3 years.  He was posted to Battery K, 245th Coast Artillery - probably at Fort Tilden on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, NY which was very close to his home.
However, five months later his unit was federalized and he became part of the Army Reserve.
It is not known when he became a paratrooper but on March 1944 Pvt Kirk became a member of Hq Hq and may have participated in the Normandy jump on D-Day.
