COLLIE B. KIRKLAND

(courtesy of Ben Chrismond)

Crypt marker for Collie B. Kirkland in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Draneville (Marion county), Georgia.

SSgt Kirkland was transferred from Hq Field Force Replacement Depot No. 8 to service Company, 508th PIR on 5 April 1944.

Initially listed as missing in action, Kirland's status was later listed as slightly injured in action 18 Sep 44.  However, the classification as "slightly injured" was inaccurate as he remained hospitalized and on 18 December 19044 he was dropped from the 508th rolls and transferred to the hospital's department of patients.  He did not return to the regiment.

He did make a recovery and re-enlisted at Fort Benning on 18 February 1946.
