WILLIAM E. KLAPPERT
MADISON - William E. "Bill" Klappert, 80, of Academy St. died Wednesday, April 5, 1995, at his residence.

A graveside memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the Riverview Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, N.C. 27375.

Ray Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.

William P. Klappert enlisted in the Army at Brooklyn, NY on 27 January 1941.  He was selected to attended OCS and graduated from the Ft. Knox Officer Candidate School on 29 June 1942.

He subsequently volunteered for parachutist duty and 2nd Lt Klappert was assigned to Hq 1st Bn 508th on 10 November 1942.  He was later transferred to Hq 2nd on 10 May 1943. 

William was promoted to 1st Lt on 21 November 1943 but was transferred from the regiment three days later.  His next assignment is unknown.

He died in Madison, NC on April 5, 1995.
