PHILIP KLINEFELTER

Grave marker for Phillip Klinefelter in the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Fort Smith (Sebastian county), Arkansas.

John enlisted in the Army at Little Rock, AR on 9 October 1942.  He was assigned to Company B and remained in that company throughput the war.  He was appointed as a Corporal in just six months and to Sergeant a year after that. His final rank was Staff Sergeant.

He was awarded the Purple Heart when he was wounded on 9 June 1944 in France and then received an Oak Leaf Cluster for a wound sustained on 20 September 1944 in Holland.

SSgt was awarded the Bronze Service Star device for his participation in the Normandy assault.
