CSM
(Retired) Henry Dennis Klisiewicz
CSM Klisiewicz enlisted in
the Army 2 Feb 1942 at the age of 18. Upon completion of basic
training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, he was assigned to 88th Airborne
Glider Infantry Battalion, Fort Benning, Georgia. He Then
volunteered for Parachute School at Fort Benning. Upon completion
of trainng, he was sent to North Africa as a replacement in the 509th
Parachute Infantry Battalion, Oujda, Tunisia. He was assigned to
the Medical Detachment as an Aidman for the Machine Gun Platoon.
A veteran of two combat
jumps (Avellino, Italy and Le Muy, France) and eleven campaign (6-ETO;
50-Korea) CSM Klisiewicz remained with the 509th until it disbanded 1
March 1945 after the battle of the Bulge. He was one of forty left
of the battle strength of the battalion coming off the line. CSM
Klisiewicz was assigned to the 508th PIR and remained wit them
until VE Day 1945. He returned to the states and was discharged in
June 1945.
CSM Klisiewicz reenlisted
in the Army in May 1947. He was assigned to I Corps during the
Korean Conflict, 6 February 1950 to 16 November 1951. He was
assigned to JUSMAG, Athens, Greece May 1957 to September 1959.
CSM Klisiewicz retired
from the service 1 March 1964. He was appointed Honorary Sergeant
Major of the 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment by the Secretary of he
Army on 21 May 1988. |
