JERRY A. KNEISL

Jerry A. Kneisl, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kneisl, 4322 .Frieda ave., infantry-man, who went overseas in November and was attached to Gen. Patch's Army as a Corporal, has been commended for gallantry and leadership and given a field promotion to. Second Lieutenant it was announced yesterday.
   At the crossing of the Saar River he distinguished himself in action and was given the Combat Infantryman Badge, and at Kleinblittersdorf, Germany he crept under fire to an exposed observation post to direct artillery operations against a fortified position which resulted in surrender of the enemy. For this heroic achievement he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal

St Louis man
dies in collision

BOONVILLE, Mo. A St. Louis man was killed after the car he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70.
   Jerry Kneisl, 74, died in the accident near Boonville Friday night, the Missouri State Patrol said.
   Kneisl's car was sitting in the middle of both eastbound lanes of 1-70 after being involved in an accident, the patrol said. The tractor-trailer struck the side of the car, knocking it onto the shoulder of the road, the patrol said.
   It said the driver of the tractor-trailer, John Schultz, 61, from Oberlin, Kan., suffered moderate injuries.

Jerry registered for the draft at St. Louis, MO on 30 June 1942.  He was inducted into the Army at Jefferson Barracks, MO on 27 January 1943 and was later commissioned..

On 9 September 1952, Captain Kneisl was mentioned as being a straight "A" student at the University of Georgia's off-campus center in Fort Benning,  A number of later articles showed him equally successful as he pursued his degree.

He was promoted to the grade of Major on 6 January 1960.  Major Kneisl retired from the Army on 31 August 1963 classified under the Retirement Code of M [20 or more years service].
