KNOWLES ALBERT W. on Nov. 4, 2005. Beloved husband for 59 years to Dorothy E. (nee Stackhouse) Knowles; dear father of Elizabeth A. Hunter (Robert) and Diane M. Coons (William); also survived by 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Albert's Viewing and Life Celebration Tues. from 9 to 10 A.M. followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. Church of Our Lady of Calvary, 11024 Knights Road. Int. Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Albert's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38015 would be appreciated. Albert registered for the draft in Philadelphia, PA on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into he Army at Philadelphia, PA on 28 December 1942

Pvt Knowles was transferred from the 11th Replacement Depot to Company C, 508th PIR on 31 August 1944.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.

 

Albert submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus on 18 January 1950.  He was credited with 17 months of domestic duty and 19 months of foreign service yielding a $455 bonus award.
