KENNETH C. KNOX

Kenneth C. Knox 89 of Springfield passed away Saturday April 7, 2012. Kenneth was born May 10, 1922 in Willard, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time spoiling his granddaughter and loved to go dancing with friends. Kenneth was a WWII Veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne 508th Parachute Third Battalion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 36 years, Mickey Knox and a daughter, Jennifer Knox. Kenneth is survived by a son, Kerry Knox and his wife, Linda; a granddaughter, Jenna Knox; sisters, Dorothy Jones, Juanita Chaffin, and Pat Gillespie; a brother, John Knox and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 9, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Rivermonte. Interment will follow in the Eastlawn Cemetery.

Grave marker for Kenneth C. Knox in Eastlawn Cemetery, Springfield (Greene county), Missouri.

Kenneth enlisted in the Army at Jefferson Barracks, MO on 6 October, 1942.

Pvt Knox was assigned to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 27 October 1943.

He made the jump into Normandy on D-Day, 6 June 1944 and may have participated in the Holland jump as well.

On 31 January 1945 Pfc Knox was evacuated as a non-battle casualty, perhaps due to frostbite.

He was transferred to the hospital's detachment of patients on 20 May 1945 and did not return to he regiment.
