JOHN E. KOAGEL

John Koagel

   John "Koko" Koagel, 59, of 34 First St., Camillus, died Friday at his home.
   Mr. Koagel was a life resident of the Syracuse area.  He retired from Frederick's Grocery in Syracuse.  Mr. Koagel was an Army veteran of World War II.
  Surviving are four sons, John M. and David C., both of Syracuse, James Ml. of Camillus and Jeffrey of Illinois; five daughters, Agnes Marie Greene and Patricia Koagel, both of Syracuse, Jeanne Michelle Mannion of Camillus, Kern Jeannine Walker of Washington, D.C., and Mary Elizabeth Moutray of Illinois; a sister, Mary Lewis of Chrystal River, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
   Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Onondaga Hill. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery

John registered for the draft in Syracuse, NY.  The registration date was not recorded.

He was inducted into the Army at Fort Dix, NJ on 16 March 1944.

Pvt Koagel was transferred from the 3rd Replacement Depot to Company A, 508th PIR on 15 February 1945.

He was promoted to Pfc on 1 March 1945.

On 6 March 1945 he was evacuated to a field hospital classified as a non-combat casualty.

He rejoined the company on 25 March 1945.

He was discharged on 2 June 1945 and married Shirley Jeanne Jensen in Athens, PA on 5 April 1949.
