FRANK J. KONARZEWSKI

   Frank J. Konarzewski, 87, of the Lincoln Heights section of Taylor, died Thursday night at Regional Hospital of Scranton Hospice Unit.  His wife of 62 years, June Richards Konarzewski, died March 17, 2012.
   Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Alexander and Lucy Zdyunczyk Konarzewski. Educated in Scranton schools, he was a lifetime member of SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, West Locust Street, Scranton, and was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, in the Rhineland, Africa and Eastern Europe. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the European-African-Middle Eastern, World War II Victory and Occupational medals.
   Until retirement he had worked for more than 40 years as a line leader for PP&L, was a member of the American Legion Kosciuszko Post 207 and a church usher at SS Peter & Paul's church for more than 45 years, of which he was very proud.
   Frank was the caregiver for his wife, June, during her illness and was very proud of the achievements of all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed his daily trips to the Glider Diner and Salerno's Pizza.
   Surviving are two sons, Frank P and wife, Kim, Peckville; and Paul and wife, Lisa, Louisville, Ky; four grandchildren, Steven and wife, Morgan; Jason and wife, Sally; Brittany and fiancé, Oscar; and Kristen; a great-grandson, Carter; a sister, Hedy Taroli, Old Forge; nieces and nephews.
   He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alexander Jr. and Joseph; and three sisters, Lydia Petkavich, Jean Kazmerick and Josephine Zaykowski.
   Frank's family would like to thank the nurses and medical staff at Moses Taylor Hospital for the kind and compassionate care given to Frank.
   The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home, 254-268 Railroad Ave., West Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by the Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, pastor. Interment will follow with military honors in the parish cemetery, Taylor. Viewing for family and friends will be Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m.

Grave marker for Frank J. Konarzewski in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Taylor (Lackawanna county), Pennsylvania.

Frank registered for the draft in Taylor, PA on 18 November 1943 and was inducted into the Army at Wilkes Barre, PA on 7 January 1944.

Pfc Konarzewski was transferred to Company C, 5078th PIR from the 101st Airborne Division on 21 October 1945.

On 19 May 1946, Pfc Konarzewski was on a troop transport arriving in New York, NYT.  The entire group was destined for the separation center at Fort Dix, NJ.
