James Quintin Kurz, 72, a Takoma Park native and 1942 graduate
of Central High School who also attended the University of
Maryland, died of cancer Oct. 14 at his home in Pine Bluff, Ark.
After European service with the Army's 82nd Airborne division
during World War II, when he received the Silver Star, the
Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, Mr. Kurz left the Washington
area. He became a forestry graduate of Oklahoma A&M University
before joining the Weyerhaeuser forestry company, from which he
retired in 1985 as a wood and pulp manager in Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Pine Bluff; two sons, Duane,
of Alaska, and James Jr., of Pine Bluff; a brother, Jack, of
Adelphi; three sisters, Barbara King of Leisure World, Betty Jo
Newton of North Little Rock and Dr. Loretta Gilmore of
Colesville; and five grandchildren.(as

WW II Last Man's Club Meet Here Tuesday
Jim Kurz will be the speaker for the annual
meeting of the World War II Last Man's Club set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Rosswood
Country Clun.
Kurz, a former sergeant in the paratroopers, was a member of the
82nd Airborne and jumped in Normandy, France, at 2:30 a.m. June 6, 1944.
He was not captured, but he was wounded.
He attended the 40-year reunion of the invasion in 1984.
His presentation will be a slide show, plus his commentary on what
went on during the invasion.
The club met on VJ-Day (Aug. 14) in 1948 and 149 and did not meet
again until August 1991.
The club was reactivated as the result of a column written by Ken
Parsons, Jr. in August 1990, that included the names of the 249 original members
who signed the charter,
Tickets, which are $10 each, are available through Fred Davits, Jr.
and W.E., Bobo, Jr. and will be available at the door on the evening of the
dinner.
