HENRY P. KUTCHINSKI

HENRY PAUL KUTCHINSKI JR.

   MISSION --- LTC (Ret) Henry Paul Kutchinski, Jr. passed away on June 26, 2007 at Mission Regional Hospital.
   He was born in Higgins, Texas on May 28, 1921, to Henry Paul Kutchinski and Louise Goettsche Kutchinski. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hansen Kutchinski of 59 years. He was also preceded in death by his brother Larry Kutchinski. He is survived by his children LTC David Paul Kutchinski (Lena Olson Kutchinski) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Paula Kutchinski Price (Antonio Garza) of Mission, Texas.
   He is also survived by his granddaughter, Amanda Brann (Jeremy Brann) of College Station, Texas and four great grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, , Keira and Kenna Brann.
   Paul was the consummate public servant and soldier. He attended West Point as a cadet and later was an instructor of Military History there. His service included WWII with the 82nd Airborne Division and the Korean War. He received two Bronze Stars for valor during these conflicts. 
   When he retired from the US Army and moved to Mission, Texas, he began his second career

with the newly formed Texas Water Quality Board. He worked as regional director for Region 12 for twenty years. He ended his public career as Water Master of the Rio Grande Valley.
   He was an example of absolute and unwavering honesty, hard work and love. He was a Mason. His life exemplified the motto inscribed in the walls at West Point: "Duty, Honor, Country".
   Paul loved the land, growing citrus and later cultivating coastal hay. He studied the native species of the area and planted many trees when he first purchased his property. The results of his wonderful green thumb include many 30-40 foot trees on his property.
   A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. at La Lomita Capilla in Mission, Texas, officiated by Father Roy Snipes, Our Lady Of Guadalupe, Mission, Texas. Burial will follow at Veteran's Cemetery in Mission, Texas with the Honor Guard from the 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC performing the ceremony.

Grave marker for Henry Paul Kutchinski in Section 33 , Row B, Site 15, Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, Mission (Hidalgo county), Texas.

Henry enlisted in the Army enlisted at Lubbock, TX on 25 November 1940.

He was discharged on 30 June 1941 and ente3rd the U. S. Military Academy at West Point on 1 July 1941.He graduated and was commissioned on 6 June 1944.

2nd Lt Kutchinski was promoted to 1st Lt on 1 March 1945.

On 31 December 1945, he married Marjorie Hensen [1920-2004] in Cache, Utah.

During the period if 1952-53 he was a member of Company C, 5098th

The date of his rise to Captain is unknown but on 4 September 1977 He was promoted to Major.

He became a Lt. Colonel on 22 July 1960 and, based on his grave marker,  retired as a full Colonel on 31 March 1965.
