Stephen Frank Lagomarsino, age 88, a
long term resident of Albuquerque, passed away on
January 9, 2014. Stephen is survived by daughters,
Jan McClain of Mission Viejo, CA and June Wildin of
Rio Rancho, NM, four grandchildren, Steve McClain of
Lake Forest, CA, Jana Miller of Tijeras, NM, Heather
Crespin and Kimberly Munson of Albuquerque, NM and
nine great-grandchildren. Stephen is preceded in
death by his wife, Leta in 1997.
Stephen served in World War II as
a paratrooper earning numerous decorations including
the Bronze Star. After honorable discharge in 1946,
he played professional baseball with the Boston
Braves, ending up with the Albuquerque Dukes.
Stephen was inducted into the
Albuquerque Hall of Fame in July of 2013. Stephen
joined the State Police force in 1952 and was
promoted to Deputy Chief in 1967. Stephen served 26
years with the State Police. Stephen attended FBI
school, graduating with honors and was elected
president of his class. In 1979 he was elected
president of the National FBI Academy and served for
a year. Stephen has authored articles on police
related matters, published in national and
international publications.
He loved sports and he could
answer just about any question you had past or
present on baseball trivia or facts. Stephen loved
and supported the Santa Fe Opera along with numerous
charities he helped through the years. Stephen had a
varied and rich life and wore many hats and wore
them well. To us he was just Dad and Papa and we
loved him dearly.
Memorial will be held on Thursday,
January 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at French -
University. Interment will follow at Santa Fe
National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may
