JAMES W. LANEY

James Wilford Laney, 90, of Ferris, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 02, 2015 at Baylor Health Care in Dallas, Texas. JW Laney was born in Canadian, Texas on January 16, 1925, the son of Grace Alena (Burton) and Sylvan Myrel Laney. He was married to Connie Marie (Reed) Laney on January 20, 1950 in Dalhart, Texas.

JW served in the 82nd Airborne during WWII and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. Post war he was stationed as a guard to General Eisenhower. On April 24th, 2015, he was honored to receive the Legion of Honor medal from the French government for his service during the liberation of France.

JW is survived by his daughter, Judy, and four sons; David and daughter-in-law, Laura Laney of San Marcos, Texas; Sam and daughter-in-law, Tracey Laney of Ferris, Texas; Randy Laney of Ferris, Texas, and Jody Laney of Boerne, Texas and sister, Debbie (Laney) Rochester of Lockhart, Texas. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Connie Marie (Reed) Laney, his brothers: Myrel, David and Billy Laney; three sons; Eddie Laney, Ted Laney and Jerry Davidson, daughter, Genda Ehrlich and two grandsons.

Graveside Service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Smithville, Texas at 1:00 pm on, Wednesday, May 6, 2015 with Pastor Leon Laney officiating.
