JOSEPH L. LANOIX


A retired carpenter and a resident of Donaldsonville, he died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 1998, in Donaldsonville. He was 74 and a native of Smoke Bend. \

He served as a paratrooper during World War II as a member of the 82nd Airborne, having fought in the European Theatre and at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and several other medals.

Memorial services at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Randy Cuevas. Survived by wife, Gloria Arceneaux Lanoix, Donaldsonville; three sons, Don Lanoix, Hesperia, Calif., Benny Lanoix, Donaldsonville, and Kurt Lanoix, Prairieville; five sisters, Ella L. Denoux and Mercedes L. Acoste, both of Smoke Bend, Florence L. "Totee" Denoux, Una L. Caballero and Irma L. Marino, all of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, Jill, Heidi, Heather, Melissa, Brian and Courtney; and three stepgrandchildren, Brandon Wojileski, Sunshine and Kip Hernandez. Preceded in death by parents, Oscar Sr. and Irma Landry Lanoix; a sister, Norma Lanoix; and three brothers, Oscar J. "Khaki," Earl "Chumbo" and Elmo Lanoix; and a son, Brian Lanoix. He was a member of American Legion Babin Haynes Post No. 98 and a former justice of the peace.
