A World War II veteran, he served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. Mr. LaTourette was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers and stationed in England when his division was called to make the historical parachute jump into Normandy, France, on D-Day, June 6, 1944. The couple met on a blind date in 1954. They married a year later.

"He devoted his entire life to his children and his wife," said his daughter, Nancy Fredericks. "He loved watching his grandsons, Bryan, Kevin and Douglas (D.C.), grow up."
