JOHN H. LATSON

Columbarium marker for John H. Latson in Angleton Cemetery, Angleton (Brazoria county), Texas.

 

John enlisted at Houston, TX on 4p0 May 1942 but registered for the draft, post-war, in Angleton, TX on 16 November 1945.

Pvt Latson was transferred from Field Force Replacement Depot #8 to Company C, 508th PIR on  31 March 1944.

He was appointed to the rank of Pfc on 20 July 1944.and promoted to Cpl on 1 August 1944. He was then promoted to Sgt on 17 August 1944.

He was wounded in action on 7 January 1945 with penetrating (point of entrance only); caused by artillery shell fragments..

The shrapnel was removed and he returned to duty within the same month.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device, both awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.

SSgt Latson was awarded a Good Conduct medal on 11 July 1945.
