LEON E. LAVENDER
Grave marker for Leon E. Lavender in Section 10, Site 11194, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington (Arlington county), Virginia.

Leon entered the Army on 8 July, 1942/  Second Lieutenant Lavender was transferred to Company C, 508th PIR, arriving at 0600 on 25 October 1942.

1st Lt. Lavender was first reported as missing in action on 6 June 1944.  His status was revised as being a prisoner of war on 4 August 1944.  He was liberated from either Oflag 64 or 21B Schubin after hostilities ceased.

He  accepted a reduction in grade to that of a Master Sgt when he3 re-enlisted on 10 January 1946 and may have remained at that grade until retirement.  His rank as seen on the grave marker reflects the highest rank held.
