Grave marker for William T. Lawhon in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge (Henry county), Georgia.

Although his arrival in the 508th was not recorded, William was relieved from attachment to Rear Detachment, 508th PIR and assigned to company G as of 26 October 1943.  He was appointed to the grade of Pfc on 10 January 1944.

Pfc Lawhon was wounded in action on 29 September 1944 and evacuated to a field hospital.

He returned to duty on 28 November and was reassigned to Service Company to complete recuperation. Pfc Lawhon was transferred back to Company G on 9 December 1944.

William was again transferred to a field hospital on 2 January 1945, this time as a non-battle casualty, probably due to frostbite.  He was able to return to duty on 27 February 1945.  His military decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device, both for the Normandy, Campaign.

SSgt Lawhon re-enlisted on 11 November 1945
