LAWHON, William T., 89 of Jonesboro, Ga., passed away January 5, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife Juanita Lawhon in 2008. Billy is survived by his three children Charline Hayes & husband James, Billy W. Lawhon & wife Johnsie and Denise Lawhon Powers & husband George. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren The Deaton's, The Jone's, The Lawhon's, The Franz's, The Power's, The Power's, The Lee's. Great Great Grandchildren The Lawhon-Thomas's And one Great Great Granddaughter. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday January 8, 2013 at the Fairview Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors. Pastor Billy W. Lawhon will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Fairview Chapel of Horis A. Ward Monday January 7, 2013 from 5-8 p.m.

Although his arrival in the 508th
was not recorded, William was relieved from
attachment to Rear Detachment, 508th PIR and assigned
to company G as of 26 October 1943. He was
appointed to the grade of Pfc on 10 January 1944.
Pfc Lawhon was wounded in action
on 29 September 1944 and evacuated to a field
hospital.
He returned to duty on 28 November
and was reassigned to Service Company to complete
recuperation. Pfc Lawhon was transferred back to
Company G on 9 December 1944.
William was again transferred to a
field hospital on 2 January 1945, this time as a
non-battle casualty, probably due to frostbite.
He was able to return to duty on 27 February 1945.
His military decorations include the Combat
Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Service Arrowhead
device, both for the Normandy, Campaign.
