Stewart enlisted in the Army in Providence, Rhode
Island on 5 March, 1943..
.Pfc Lawrence, a member of Company
G, was wounded in action in Holland on 14 October
1944. He was evacuated to a field hospital and
rejoined the company on October 23rd.
Sgt Lawrence re-enlisted on 10
November 1945. Based on his headstone
inscription indicating service during the Korean
Conflict era, he may have seen combat again as a
second wound could account for his discharge on 23
November 1951.
His military decorations
include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service
Arrowhead device for Holland campaign and Airborne
