WILLIAM F. LEE
   Rev. William "Bill" Franklin Lee, 84, passed away at the VA Medical Center Ashville on Monday, August 7, 2006.
   He was born in Cleveland County, on December 15, 1921 to the late Thomas Marvin Lee and Amanda Williams Lee. He was a retired opening room supervisor from Cleveland Mills, and he attended New Hope Baptist Church.
   He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater where he earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Silver Service Medal.
   Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi "Dink" Jones Lee; two brothers, Robert Hugh Lee and Thomas Lee; and one sister, Edna Earl Howell.
   He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Dedmon and husband Andy of Earl and a granddaughter, Victoria Dedmon of Earl. The burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Park.

William enlisted in the Army on 19 July 1940 at Charlotte, NC and therefore was not registered for the draft which began on September 16th of that same year.

Pvt Lee was one of 13 men attached to Hq 2nd, 508th PIR from the 504th PIR on 27 May 1944.  He was of the three that were not either killed in action or taken prisoner.  All remained in an attached status.

This record was created after his discharge on 22 September 1945.  However, William e-enlisted on 9 December 1946 and was discharged for the final time on 30 September 1948.
