ALLEN P. LIBERTY

   Allen Peter Liberty, age 98 died Friday, October 3, 2017 at his home in Pinehurst, NC.
   A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, November 13, 2017 at Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery in Spring Lake.
   Allen Peter Liberty came into this world on April 17, 1919 son of Walter and Corrine Liberty in Quincy, Mass. He grew up in the country in Newton, Mass.
   He loved to tell stories of being a soda jerk as a teenager at Howard Johnson’s in Boston.
   He went into the Army and served during WW2 in the Philippine campaign and on to post war Japan. He retired as a Major in 1960. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers and also in Special Forces.
   After retirement he again served as a civilian employee in the Army Corps of Engineers.
   He was preceded in death by wife Helen Liberty. He was also preceded in death by daughters Delores, who died a child, Clara Grace Liberty, Carol Liberty Vouno, sons Ernest Clyde Liberty, Richard Roy Liberty. He is survived by daughter Allene May Proctor and step son Thomas Wayne Sherwin.

Grave marker for Allen P. Liberty in Plot 10B, Grave 384, Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake (Cumberland county), North Carolina.

The date of Allen's first enlistment at Fort Devens, MA is not known but, MSgt Liberty re-enlisted on 15 December 1945.

He was subsequently commissioned and retired as a Major on 31 March 1960.

Of specific note is that the then Captain Allen P. Liberty was in command of the 598th Airborne Engineer Company when it was reactivated in August 1951 and assigned to the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team.
