volunteered for parachutist duty.

LISKA WINS BOOTS AND WINGS
Pvt. Robert Liska. son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Liska, 437 Falrmount
street. has won the right to wear the "Boots and Wings" of
the U. S army paratroops. He has completed tour week
of jump training at Ft. Benning, during which time he made five jumps, the last
a tactual jump at night involving a combat problem
on landing.

Pfc Liska was transferred from the
505th Parachute Infantry Regiment to Hq 2nd, 508th
PIR on 10 October 1945. He was listed in an
article in the Daily Times, Davenport, IA as one of
many men who were now "out of the service" on 9 July
1946.
Robert married Gladys Johnson in
Chicago, (Cook), IL on 13 February 1948
On
6 July 1949, Robert submitted this application for
the Iowa WWII Veterans Bonus. He was credited
with 24 moths of domestic duty and 14 months of
foreign service earning him a $275 bonus award. |
