HARRIS M. LISSAK
Harris M. Lissak "Morty" Harris M. Lissak (Morty), 83, of Ventnor, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, February 26, 2009.
   Morty was born in New York and grew up in Atlantic City (Class of '43). He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in WWII, seeing action at Normandy, Holland, the Battle of the Bulge and Ardennes, and he received the Purple Heart.
   Upon returning from the war, he earned his accounting degree from Rutgers University and settled with his family in Wilmington. DE.
   He became a partner and treasurer of Leon Weiner and Assoc., a Wilmington homebuilder. In later years, he earned his CPA and started his own accounting firm.
   Morty and his wife Betty retired to Ventnor over 15 years ago. He was a very devoted member of Avoda and the Jewish War Veterans and also a member of Beth El Synagogue.
   Morty is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty (Gardner); sisters. Elaine (Lissak) Peskoe and her husband, Arthur, Penny (Lissak) Stadtmauer and her husband Warren; son, Gary Lissak and his wife Janet; daughter, Jann (Lissak) Cohen: and grandchildren, David Lissak and his wife Danielle, Andy Lissak and his wife Laura, Adam Lissak and his wife Jennifer, Sara Cohen Medifar and her husband Ramin, and Jesse Cohen and his wife Jennifer. He also took great pride in his great-grandchildren, Nathan Lissak, Chase Lissak, Amaya Lissak, and Alexis Cohen.
   Relatives and friend are invited to attend funeral services Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 1:30pm, at Beth El Synagogue, 500 N. Jerome Ave. in Margate. Interment to follow at Rodef Sholom Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp.
   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Avoda, P.O. Box 3120, Margate NJ 08402.

Harris enlisted in the Army at Fort Dix, NJ on 20 March 1944.

Pvt Lissak was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division to Service Company 508th PIR on 1 January 1945.  He was subsequently transferred to Company I on 8 January.

Pvt Harris was seriously wounded in action in Belgium on 5 February 1945 and evacuated to a field hospital.

Still hospitalized, he was transferred to the hospital's Detachment of Patients on 10 May 1945 and did not return to the regiment.

Pvt Lissak was discharged on 17 January 1946 and in 1947 he married  Betty Gardner in New Jersey.

In 1950, Harris graduated from Rutgers University with BS degree in Accounting.
