Grave marker for John T. Little (Col., Ret.) in
Section G14 Row 5 Site 369 of the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial
Cemetery, Exeter (Washington Island), Rhode Island. Joseph
enlisted at Providence, RI on 25 April 1942 and, as a parachutist
volunteer, was assigned to Hq Company, 3rd Battalion in Camp
Blanding, FL. By July 1943 he was promoted to the rank of
Tech 5.
He received the Bronze Star Medal for Heroic
Conduct while Battalion S-2, probably during the Ardennes
Campaign. He also received the Bronze Service Arrowhead
Device for his participation in the Normandy assault.
Om November 14, 1`944 he accepted a commission
and ultimately retired as a full Colonel (date unknown) after
serving in Korea and Vietnam. His grave
stone inscription indicates that he also received the Legion of
Merit, Purple Heart and army commendation Medals, all of which
may have been earned during service subsequent to his
stint in the 508th. |
