Watervliet Man Wins Trophy As Best Soldier
The best soldier in
Company 105th Infantry, in the opinion of the unit's 25 non-commissioned
officers is Pfc. William Littlejohn of 305 Fourteenth Street,
Watervliet.
Littlejohn, a member of the company for the last 13 months was presented
a trophy at a company formation last night at Troy Armory. The silver trophy was
inscribed: "To
the best soldier Company A. 105th Infantry Regiment, 1953,
William Littlejohn."
The cup was presented by the
Non-Commissioned Officers Club of the company. Sgt. 1/c Nicholas
Ciampolillo made the presentation It was the .first time the
N.C.O Club had so honored the unit best soldier, but Sgt.
Ciampolillo said it will be an annual event.
Littlejohn is an
automatic rifle man in the first platoon of Company A. He was
selected on basis of outstanding work with the company, neatness,
initiative, tact and courtesy.
Members of the N.C.O. Club voted
after the completion of the recent summer training trip. Men of
the company were judged on their activities during one year and
principally at summer camp.

Recruiting Medals Given Two In Guard Pfc. Joseph Ferretli and Pfc. William Littlejohn of Co. A, Infantry Regiment, N. Y. National Guard last night were awarded recruiting medals at ceremonies in the Troy Armory. The men were presented the medals
for obtaining three recruits each during the recent recruiting drive, which extended
from March through July. First Lt. Gerald J. Griffin, executive officer of the company made the presentation of the medals. First Lt. Frank M. Bagnardi is commander of the company. Pfc. Littlejohn won the best soldier award for Co. A during
the annual two-week camping period of the regiment.
A new drive for recruits is :being started this month by the regiment. Several of the companies are offering cash prizes to their personnel for the procurement of
the most recruits. A feature of the drive will be various recruiting parties to be held by the various companies within the next few months.

Joins "Red Devil"
Unit
Pvt. William Littlejohn of 30 14th St., Watervliet, was
recently assigned to Co. I of the famous 508 "Red Devil" Airborne Regimental Combat Team at Fort Campbell, Ky., the, only such
combat team in the United States Pvt. Littlejohn is working as rifleman in his new company.

In Service In Korea
Cpl. William H. Littlejohn, 22, of 7 Gale Place, has been assigned to
the 24th Infantry Division in Korea. He is the husband of the former Leona of Troy. Cpl. Littlejohn is a leader in Company G of the division's 19th Regiment.

New Airborne Unit Taking Applications
The Joint Airborne Association, comprised of all
airborne veterans and active members, is accepting applications for members for its area chapter which was formed recently.
Any former paratrooper who is interested in becoming a member has been requested to contact William Littlejohn, president of the area chapter, at 1400 3rd Ave., or Staff Sgt.

Plans are under way for the construction of a building to be located in Watervliet and serve as headquarters for the group. The association and the Special Special Forces are jointly sponsoring the Airborne Cadets, which are known, as "The All-American Screaming Eagles." These
boys must be from 13 to 17 years of age, be 5 feet or over and of age, be 5 feet or over and
