Eagle Butte man drowns in Brown Dam
  ' EAGLE BUTTE - Francis "Hank" Livermont Sr., 55, Eagle Butte, drowned Friday in Brown Dam north of Eagle Butte, according to Cheyenne River Indian Reservation police.

  EAGLE BUTTE Services for Francis "Hank" Livermont Sr., 55. Eagle Butte, will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Holy Cross Catholic Church at Timber Lake. The Rev. Dan Juelfs will be celebrant.
   Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, under direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
   Livermont drowned Friday afternoon In Brown Dam north of Eagle Butte. He was born Jan. 20, 1928, at Timber Lake, to Henry and Christine Livermont. He attended Williamson rural school south of Timber Lake, Timber Lake High School and Cheyenne Agency Boarding School.
   He joined the U.S. Army in 1948, serving with the Army of Occupation in Japan and during the Korean War. After many years of military service, he lived in Clarksville, Tenn., where he was a car body repairman. He lived in Eagle Butte the past four years.
   Surviving are one son, Francis Henry Livermont Jr., of Conway, Ark.; four sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Kay) Wilcox of Rapid City, Imelda Schreiner of Forestville. Md.,' Mrs. Harold (Ramona) Crawley of Roseville, Calif., and Arlene Traylor of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Joe of Eagle Butte and Donald of New Town, N.D. - He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Francis' birth was recorded in the Live Births documented for 1927-28 on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, South Dakota.  It stated he was a member of the Cheyenne River Reservation Sioux nation.

[The Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, is the home of the federally recognized Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe or Cheyenne River Lakota Nation (Oyate). The members include representatives from four of the traditional seven bands of the Lakota, also known as Teton Sioux: the Minnecoujou, Two Kettle (Oohenunpa), Sans Arc (Itazipco) and Blackfoot (Sihásapa).]

He and his family appeared in various Indian Census Rolls, such as this example from 1951.  The census was conducted by the Cheyenne Agency, SD, a branch of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Francis enlisted in the Army at Fort Snelling, MN on 13 May 1946.

On 16 Aug 1951, Cpl. Livermont, Co A, 508th ARCT, was listed amongst the men returning from Korea and enroute to San Francisco, aboard the transport Lt. Raymond Beaudoin which was scheduled to arrive Tuesday from Japan the following day.

On 4 March 1955, Pfc Livermont was one of the 186 508 ARCT re-enlistees as the unit prepared for Operation Gyroscope, his hometown was shown as Timber Lake, SD which is within the reservation boundaries.
