Oren C. Locks, age 84, of Roseburg,
Oregon, died on Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Cottage
Grove, Oregon. Mr. Locks was
born on October 1, 1924, in Zephyr, Texas, to Philip
and Zelma (Couch) Locks. He graduated from Zephyr
High School and joined the Army.
He served as a paratrooper in the
82nd Airborne in World War II, on the European front
in France and Germany.
In 1946, he married Dorothy Helen
Hunter. Mr. Locks attended business school, and
worked as a farmer and fireman before moving to
Oregon, where he found work with U.S. Plywood (later
Champion International). He and Dorothy moved to
Roseburg in 1957. In addition to his full-time
employment at Champion, Mr. Locks built several
houses in the green district south of Roseburg
before retiring in 1980. He enjoyed traveling and
gardening in retirement. He was an avid fisherman
and enjoyed boating and hunting. His wife, Dorothy
died in 2001.
Mr. Locks is survived by a
brother, Michael of Zephyr, Texas; a daughter,
Martha Hawkes of Siletz and son, Philp Locks of
Roseburg, as well as two grandchildren, Jessica
Hawkes of South Beach and Anne Nieblas of Central
Point, Oregon, and two great-grandchildren, Aaron
and Isaac Waley of Newport, Oregon. Arrangements
pending Smith-Lund Funeral Chapel.
