Draft record and grave
marker for Gerald C. Lockwood in Olinger Highland
Mortuary and Cemetery, Thornton (Adams county),
Colorado. Although he listed
himself in the draft using his legal name of
"Cornelius Gerald", he apparently flip-flopped them
in later life as his enlistment record and all
other future references show him as as "Gerald C."
Gerald enlisted in the Army at
Denver, CO on 21 January 1944.
Om 3 October 1944, Pvt Lockwood
was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division to
Service Company, 508th PIR. He was then
transferred to Company D on 21 November 1944.
He was promoted to Pfc on 20 January 1945.
Pfc Lockwood was wounded in action
in Germany on 10 February 1945.
SSgt Lockwood was transferred from
Company D to the 513th PIR on 18 August 1945.
His military decorations include
the
Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman
Badge for action during campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20
Feb 1945. A second award of the Bronze Star as
noted on his grave marker may be attributed to the
post-war awards made to holders of the CIB. |
