DISPLAYS EQUIPMENT
AT DETROIT AIR SHOW
Capt, Alexander Soroka of the Quartermaster Airborne Group, and six men from Fort lee are displaying the latest life-saving equipment being used by American troops in Korea at the International Aviation Exposition at the Detroit-Wayne Major Airport, Detroit.
Capt. Soroka of Philadelphia, and a veteran in airborne operations, is a graduate of the Fort Benning, Ga., parachute training course and a qualified parachutist. He is an airborne Instructor with the Quartermaster School.
Among the six enlisted men are Sergeant Foy C. Long, a veteran of nearly 10 years’ service with the Army. During World War II, he served as a machine-gunner with the 82nd Airborne Division which made the first air drop in Europe on D-Day and later served with the 11th Airborne in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

Foy registered for the draft in Hendersonville, NC
on 30 June 1942. His initial enlistment date is unknown.
On 3 October 1944, Pvt Long was transferred from
82nd Airborn4 Division Hq to Service Company, 508th PIR.
Pfc Long was transferred to the 506th PIR, 101st
Airborne Division on 4 October 1945 at APO 472, In Newbury
England .
SSgt Long re-enlisted on 1 February 1955 and was
discharged on 20 July 1964 with 20 or more years service.
His military decorations include the Combat
Infantryman Badge awarded for action during campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to
20 Feb 1945.
Prior to his retirement, Foy and his wife Carrie
adopted a 10-year Korean boy, Lee San Koo. The child's name was
changed to Danny Lee Long during the Petition for Naturalization
process.
