HERBERT M. LONG
MT PLEASANT, SC-- Herbert Long, of Mt Pleasant, widow of Betty Nelson Long, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at his residence.

Born 1929, in Tipton, IN. He was the son of the late Floyd and Alta Long. Mr. Long served as an Army Sergeant in 508 Parachute Infantry.

He married Betty Nelson in 1948, in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Long received his Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance from University of Alabama. They settled in Spartanburg, SC and he worked with Leigh Fibers, retiring after 32 years as the Vice President of Finance. He loved to fish and was a Bass master.

Survivors included a daughter, Gina Neiderberger and husband Gary of Mt Pleasant; a son, Glenn Long and wife Dorothy of Moore, SC; one sister, Marjorie Billue and husband Robert of Monticello, IN; five grandchildren, Paige Neiderberger of Mt Pleasant, Heather Smith of Mt Pleasant, Letisha Iler of Summerville, Katrina Neiderberger of Summerville, and Amberlee C. Long of Moore, SC, also included are three great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Elmwood cemetery, Birmingham, AL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1064 Gardner Road, Charleston, SC 29407 or to the Salvation Army, 4248 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC 29405.

Arrangements are being handled by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home.

Herbert enlisted in the Army at Indianapolis, IN on 16 January 1946.

Herbert married Betty Jean Nelson [1929-2001] on 11 August 1948, in Birmingham, AL.

He was discharged on 15 January 1949.
