WILLIAM E. LONG

William Evans Long departed this life on November 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Long. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Cox Long, brother Thomas Edward Long (Jean) and a niece and nephew.
   He was a veteran of WWII and as a member of the 82nd Airborne made all the major combat jumps in WWII including Normandy.
   Coach Long was a retired Coach and Administrator at Douglas Freeman High School and a member of the Virginia High School League Sports Hall of Fame, the Douglas Freeman Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Richmond Sports Hall of Fame.
   A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel on Monday, December 1, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A mass celebrating his life will be held at St. Bridget's Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 11 AM.
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Douglas Southall Freeman Athletic Boosters Club or the charity of your choice.
