ZEB V,  LUCAS

Lucas - Funeral services for Zeb Vance Lucas, 86, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday from, the graveside in Oaklawn Cemetery.  The visitation will be Tuesday at the George H. Hewell and Sun [sic] Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South.  Mr. Lucas died Sunday, November 1, 1998 in Orange Park. He was born in Alabama on January 22, 1912 and was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Mildred R. Lucas; his daughter Leanna V. Lucas; his son, James (Gail) N., Lucas his granddaughter, Jennifer M. Lucas; his sister, Maureen Mitchell and his brother Jack Lucas.

Zeb registered for the draft in Ashland, AL on 16 October 1940 and was inducted into the Army at Fort McClellan, AL on 8 July 1941 and his 4 years of college quickly put him into the OCS program.

On 1 October 1942, 2nd Lt. Lucas was transferred from the 507th PIR to Hq 2nd, 508th PIR as a member of the cadre team.

Lt Lucas was transferred to Company D on 2 February 1943 and on Mar 29, 1943 he was transferred to the 4th Service Command, Fort Benning, GA.
