EDWARD M. MACKOWIAK
MacKOWIAK Edward M.
Age 87, of Woodbrook, formerly of Elmira Heights, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Ed was born October 1, 1920, a son of the late Stephen and Helen Wichtowski Mackowiak. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by brothers and sisters, Walter, Floyd, Stuart, Helen and Dorothy. Ed is survived by his wife Mary Biondolillo MacKowiak; step-daughter, Nancy Balash of Elmira, with husband, Sam; step-son, Joseph Biondolillo of Hamburg, NY with wife Annalise; grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Balash, Christopher, Mathew, and Marissa Biondolillo; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Garrison and Allyson Balash; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard V. and Dorothy Mackowiak of Webb Mills; sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia and Richard Whited of Montana; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Debra Cappadonia and Ann Nelson, all of Florida; along with several nieces and nephews. Ed was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne seeing extensive action in Europe. Before serving in the Army he played minor league baseball in the Red Sox Organization. An avid sports fan, Ed enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and rooting for the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Raiders. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Clarence Oliver Post #154, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Italian-American Veterans Club, and long time communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Ed through donations to either the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Avenue, Elmira NY 14901, or Bath VA Medical Center, Volunteer Services, Bath NY 14810. Members of the Italian-American Veterans Club will meet at McInerny Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 for a prayer service for our deceased comrade, Edward MacKowiak. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Father Thomas O'Brien was the presider, with Father Christopher Linsler con-celebrating. Ed's pallbearers, Michael Balash, Chris Biondolillo, Mathew Biondolillo, Ronald Mackowiak, Tom Mackowiak, and Scott Williams placed the funeral pall on his casket. Scripture readings were given by son-in-law Sam Balash, and grandson Mathew Biondolillo. Father Linsler read the gospel and Father O'Brien delivered the homily. Father O'Brien led the prayers of the faithful. Offertory gifts were presented by Ed's stepchildren, with their spouses, Nancy and Sam Balash, and Joseph and Annalise Biondolillo. Grandson Christopher Biondolillo gave the eulogy. Music was led by organist Frances McLaren, soloist Nan Wyack, with special selections by granddaughter Marissa Biondolillo and great-niece Megan Mackowiak. Interment, with full military honors, followed at St. Peter & Paul's
