Grave marker for Robert A. Marchese, with close-up of footer inset, in Block 18, Section B, Lot 353, Grave 5, Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, Milwaukee (Milwaukee county), Wisconsin.

Robert enlisted in the Army at Milwaukee, WI on 27 July 1942.

On 13 November 1943, per Special Order #272, Hq Cp Mackall NC, Robert and O.B. Hill were dispatched to Fort Monmouth, NJ as guards. Presumably they were taking custody of Pvt Joseph Esposito who had gone AWOL on 1 November and was in custody at that time at Fort Monmouth.  They returned on Thanksgiving Day, 25 November.

Pvt Marchese was wounded in action on 8 June 1944 but was able to return to the company 10 days later.

He was appointed to the grade of Pfc on 19 July 1944.

ON 31 May 1945, PFC Marchese was transferred to Hq 13th Airborne Division and was discharged on 3 December 1945.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in Normandy assault.
