ALFRED S. MATALAVAGE
Age 92 years, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Bay Shores Senior Care and Rehab Center. He was born on January 12, 1919 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania to the late John and Agnes (Adanciewicz) Matulewicz.

Alfred was employed with the Merchant Marine for many years and he retired from U.S. Postal Service. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II and was held as a POW in Germany from June 4, 1944 to May 6, 1945.

Alfred was a member of the VFW and was a member of St. Hyacinth Church.

He was married to the former Romaine C. Pagryzinski, who died on June 15, 2000.

Surviving is a sister, Jean Kazmierski of Connecticut; two sisters-in-law, Esther Pagryzinski and Jeanette Wlodarczak many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Alfred was preceded in death by three sisters: Stella Gilefski, Lucille Montague and Florence Gill.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011 in St. Hyacinth Church at 11:00 AM. Rev. Edward J. Konieczka will preside and inurnment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Bay County Veterans Council.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in church. Memorials may be sent to VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S. Waverly Rd, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827
