Pfc Paul V. McCarthy enlisted in the Army in
Cleveland, Ohio on May 7, 1943 and volunteered for parachutist
duty. He joined the regiment after he completed basic
training and jump school..
It is believed that he was a member of Hq 1st
but no record has been found as yet. It is known that at some point Paul was transferred to the
505th PIR.
