On 23 October 1945, Pfc McCormick was transferred from the 101st Airborne Division to Company F, 508th PIR.

He was discharged on 4 June 1946.

On 25 August 1956, William married Selma Stone in Price (Rockingham), NC.

He died on 28 November 1995 in  Eden (Rockingham county), NC.  His final restig place is unknown.
