Grave marker for James H. McDuffie in the Shepherd Memorial
Park, Hendersonville (Henderson county), North Carolina.
[Note the parachutist emblem] James
enlisted in the Army on 22 July 1942 and may have been commissioned as a
2nd Lieutenant as early as 5 November 1942.
On 11 May 1943 1st Lt McDuffie was announced as
Assistant to the Plans and Training Officer (S-3), Third Battalion in
General Order 30, 508th PIR .
1/Lt McDuffie was wounded in action on 29 June 1944.
Francis Lamoureux [Co G] stated that after a mortar attack McDuffie was
"bloodied and writhing in pain".
James was evacuated to a field hospital and did not
return to the regiment. |
