HARVELL C. MCELROY

Grave marker for Harvell C. McElroy in the Hope Section, Row 30 of the Mount Vernon Memorial Park, Fair Oaks (Sacramento county), California.

Harvell enlisted in the Army at Los Angeles, CA on 17 December 1943.

His initial assignment is unknown but on 21 November 1944 Pvt McElroy was transferred to Co F, 508h PIR.  On 15 January 1945, while on the front lines in Belgium, he was promoted to Pfc.

Unfortunately Pfc McElroy was wounded in action on 39 January 1945,  He was evacuated to a field hospital and on 21 May 1945 Pfc McElroy was transferred to another hospital.  He did not return to the regiment.  He was discharged on 28 August 1945.

Pfc McElroy's military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge awarded for action during campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945
