LAWRENCE E. MCFADDEN

Grave marker for Lawrence E. McFadden, G Company, in the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor, New Jersey.  He died on July 15, 1986.

Lawrence enlisted in the Army at Camden, NJ on 10 November 1942.

Ten days later he arrived at Camp Blanding, FL from the Reception Center, Fort Dix, NJ and reported for duty with Co G, 508th PIR.

 While he made it through Normandy unscathed, Sgt McFadden was listed as seriously wounded in action in Holland on 17 September 1944.  He was able to rejoin the company on 28 September.

Lawrence added a stripe when he was appointed to the grade of SSgt on 19 January 1945.

.On 2 February 1945 SSgt McFadden was awarded the Silver Star "for gallantry in action on 26/27 December 1944, near Erria, Belgium." 

His military decorations include the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Bronze Service Arrowhead device which was awarded for participation in Normandy assault
