AVERY McGAHA

Grave marker for Avery McGaha in the Union Cemetery,
Newport (Cocke County), Tennessee

Avery McGaha enlisted in the U.S. Army on October7, 1943 at Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia.  He volunteered for parachutist duty and was sent to Camp Blanding, Florida where the 508th PIR was just forming.  Once there he was assigned to the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion.
