ACE J F. MCVAY
   Rev. Ace James Franklin McVay went home to be with his Lord on December 24, 2013 at 4 pm. Brother Ace was well loved for his humor, compassion, and generous heart.
   Born in Florala, Alabama on April 14th 1931, Rev. McVay attended Perkinston Jr. College and Mississippi College before obtaining a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
   Rev. Ace served as a tireless servant of the Lord for the duration of his adult life. A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he most recently served as pastor of Oakcrest Baptist Church from 1999 2009. In prior years, he ministered in many other churches in Mississippi and Louisiana, including Weller Avenue Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church here in Baton Rouge. Additionally, in Louisiana he served in Red Bluff Baptist Church in Folsom, Mt. Herman Baptist Church, and Calvary Baptist in Bogalusa. In Mississippi, he pastored at Eastside Baptist Church in Pearl, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Bethel Baptist Church in Hazelhurst, and Central Baptist Church in Brookhaven.
   Rev. McVay was also in the Green Beret, 3rd Special Forces Airborne, serving as the Troopers Chaplain. Overseas, he ministered in Korea, Vietnam, and Okinawa. Stateside, he was stationed at Ft. Benning, Ft. Slocum , Ft. Bliss, Ft. Meade, and Ft. Bragg.
   Wherever he was, Brother Ace was active in community and civic organizations, as well as associational and State Baptist Convention work, including VFW, DAV, Council on Aging, Community Advancement, American Legion, and Rotary Club. He was also an Executive Board Member of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, as well as VBS Director of the Greater Baton Rouge Baptist Association.
   Rev. Ace is survived by three siblings, Clara Mae Bass of Florala, Juanita Johnson of Paxton, FL, Emma Jean Shaw of Liberty, NC his wife, Mattilee McVay children Ann, Charles, and Ellen stepchildren Elizabeth Marie Jones, and C. Lewis Elliott as well as six grandchildren and step grandchildren.
   Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 8 am until funeral service at 10 am. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

 Baptist Minister
   BATON ROUGE – Services for long-time Baptist minister the Rev. Ace McVay will be Jan. 4. He died Dec. 24 at age 82.
   He was a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran. He had pastored churches throughout Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi. He was a former Executive Board member of the Louisiana Baptist Convention as well as Vacation Bible School Director of the Greater Baton Rouge Baptist Association.
   Survivors include his wife Mattilee, three children and three step-children.
