Meek was a Marine Corps and Army Chaplain Corps veteran. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Services: Memo

rial, 2 p.m. Saturday in Eureka Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Survived by: Wife, Alice; daughter, Sherry Smith; sons, Charles and Richard; sister, Frances Thompson; four granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. Boles Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Pines.

During the Korean War, while serving with the 180th Infantry Regiment, Chaplain Meek was awarded the Silver Star. His citation read,. in part:

  When the 180th attacked enemy positions on two hills, Chaplain Meek accompanied them. Under fire he struggled  with  a large  pack of medical supplies, sought out wounded, administered first· aid, organized  litter-bearers,    as well as speaking comfort to his men.

Charles registered for the draft in Memphis, TN on 16 October 1940 and on 9 November 1942 he joined the Marine Corps.  2nd Lt Meek was wounded in action on Guam.

He ended his service with the Marine Cops on 4 Oct 1950 and entered the U.S. Army Reserves as a Chaplain (Capt.). the following day.

Charles continued to stand-out when years later he was named as the command chaplain, across multiple branches, in the Panama Canal Zone.
