Meriwether attends reunion

   Duane Meriwether, of Duchesne, attended the Reunion of the 508th Parachute Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division [sic] from June 1 to June 6.
   The reunion was held in Sparks-Reno, Nevada. , Meriwether's division is known for jumping on D-Day at Normandy in World War IL They also participated in jumps at Holland, Battle of the Bulge, and the Central Rhineland. It was the most decorated division of World War IL
   Meriwether was involved in being one of the group of five mm who were the first American Soldiers in Berchtesgaden, site of Hitler's Eagle Nest.
   Meriwether enjoyed meeting many old friends that he hadn't seen since their release from the army in 1946.
   One, Stanley B. Clever and his wife Doris, came from Xenia, Ohio, and traveled with him to Rena.
   Paige Glade and daughter Megan came from Bountiful [UT] to stay with her mother Barbara Meriwether while he was gone.

   James Duane Meriwether

  James Duane Meriwether was born on March 18 1922 in Boneta, Utah to Dewey and Sylvia Knight Meriwether. He died where he was happiest in Rock Creek, Utah on Dec 9 1991.
   He married Barbara Ellen Burdick in Heber- City on December 12, 1946.
   He is survived by his wife, Duchesne; Michael Scott and Condyce Meriwether, Heber City, Melanie  Meriwether Albuquerque, New Mexico, Laurie Meriwether and Paige Meriwether, Salt Lake City, granddaughters Rochelle Young Meagan Glade, Danielle Lynsie Rae and Charelle Lyn Meriwether, brother Marvin Murray, sister Ruby MacMillan, Morgan and mother-in-law Maxine W. Burdick, Duchesne.
   He was a member of the Army 101st Airborne Division he served in Europe during World War II. Friendships that started then continued through a lifetime and are a tribute to him.
   He enjoyed hunting fishing packing and being outdoors but most important to him was sharing those things with family and friends He was active in the American Legion Duchesne Post 22 and regularly recruited new and inactive members. He was a regular member of the Color Guard always carried the American flag and was a participant in all Veteran services.
   He was a natural entertainer, people loved being with him. He set a standard for relationships that many have strived for, few achieve.
   Funeral services Friday, 11 a.m., Duchesne1st Ward Chapel where friends may call Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 10-10:45 a.m. Burial Duchesne Cemetery with Military honors Funeral directors Olpin-Hullinger Mortuary Roosevelt.

James registered for the draft in Boneta,, UT on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Salt lake City on 1 March 1943.

James' arrival in the 508th is not recorded on available morning reports thereby implying it occurred between June 1 and December 31, 1945.

He was discharged on 7 January 1946.

James  married Barbara Ellen Burdick in Duchesne, UT on 12 December 1946.
