VITO  MIGALA

Vito Migala 1923 - 2012

Passed away peacefully in San Francisco January 17, 2012.

Adored husband for 57 years of Josephine. Loving "Daddy" of Vita (Carlos) Rodriguez and Joanna (Brian) Janssen. Devoted "Tataran" of Michelle (Will) Watkins and Gina Rodriguez. Beloved brother of Viney Martin. Also survived by many loving family and friends here and in Italy.
   Born in Verbicaro, Italy, immigrated to the U.S. in 1937. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, Vito was a medic with the 82nd Airborne Division in 1943. A member of the first wave in the Invasion of Normandy, he was also in the Battle of the Bulge and was instrumental in the liberation of concentration camps.
   Friends are welcome for visitation from 4 PM Monday with Vigil service at 7 PM AT Halsted N. Gray - Carew & English, 1123 Sutter St.
   Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:15 AM Tuesday, Jan 24, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2320 Green St. at Steiner, SF followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma,

Vito registered for the draft in San Francisco, CA.  The date of his induction into the Army is not known.

Pvt Migala was transferred to the 508th Medical Detachment in late 1945.

Vito Migala, born in Verbicaro, Provincia di Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, became a naturalized U.S. citizen on 13 May 1946.

He married Josephin Corbelli in San Francisco on 9 May 1954.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device  awarded for the Holland Campaign.
