HAROLD H. MILEY

Grave marker for Harold H. and Helen R. Miley in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin (Newton county) Missouri.

Harold was a National Guard enlisted man in the 38th Infantry Division was inducted into federal service on 17 January 1941 and he was tapped for OCS.  Commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant he volunteered for parachutist duty and was initially assigned to the 507th PIR.

On 16 October 1st Lt Miley was a member of the cadre team assigned to the 508th PIR.  On 12 January 1943, Lt Miley was transferred to the 513th PIR at Fort Benning, GA.

Lt Miley jumped into Normandy on D-Day and was taken prisoner on 23 July 1944 and was held captive until 19 March 1945 when he was liberated from an unnamed POW camp.
