CARL E. MOUNCE

Carl Eugene Mounce, age 84 and a resident of Hammond,

   Carl passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Post Acute Specialty Hospital in Hammond.
   He retired as a Sergeant First Class with the U.S. Army, after serving 20 years and was involved during the Korean Conflict.
   Carl was a 32nd degree Mason with the Albany Lodge.

   Carl leaves behind his wife, Ruby Mounce; daughter, Vickie Daugherty and husband Ed; five step-children, as well as, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Marvin and Howard Mounce.

   Preceding Carl in death were his parents, William and Hester Rushing Mounce; brother, Clarence "Buck" Mounce; sisters, Clara Singletary, Gracie Coates and Bernice Bignar.

   Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will resume on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Sammy Smith will officiate the services and interment will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carl served in the 508th ARCT and was one of many men who re-enlisted  in order to be included in Operation Gyroscope as the 508th deployed to Camp Chickamauga, Beppu, Japan in 1955.

He remained in the Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class/
