 Virgil Franklin Mullennax of Stroud, died in Claremore on Tuesday, November 3, 1998.  He was 72.
  Graveside services will be held at the Stroud Cemetery at 2 p.m., on Friday, November 6, 1998 with Rev. Ronald Allton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.
    He was born in Maramec, OK on January 8, 1926 to James A. and Ethel May (Carlisle) Mullennax.  He married Ortha Norton in Bartlesville on August 12, 1949.
   Mullennax was a Stroud resident for the past 10 years, moving here from Ponca City.  He was a retired sheet metal mechanic.
  He served in the United States Army Air Corp [sic] in the 82nd Air- borne Division during WWII,  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Stroud, the Oklahoma Airborne Association, the *Virgil Mullennax Chapter of Airborne Association, a past president of the Ponca City Handicap Club, and was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Stroud,
   He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
   Survivors include his widow, Ortha Mullennax of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Salle Mullennax, Broken Arrow [OK]; and David and Jan Mullennax, Moore [OK]; two grandchildren, Megan ad Mason Mullennax, Broken Arrow [OK].

*NOTE:  the VIRGIL MULLENNAX ALL AIRBORNE CHAPTER is still in operation (as of December 2010)
